About Jason May
I write a lot of code.
Ruby and Perl
I write a lot of Ruby, both professionally and on the side as of April 2012. Before that I wrote mainly Perl. I still write things in Perl, but since I do Ruby for a living now, that is my language of choice for the time being. I have been learning a lot in a short period of time.
I have been writing a lot of Rails for my job. In side projects I am using other things like EventMachine and gluing components of apps together with MongoDB and ZeroMQ.
When it comes to Perl, I am a big believer in CPAN. I started writing things in Moose back at YAPC 2008. I wrote a lot of IPC-heavy setups and Web applications in Perl.
The Web
Programming aside, once in a while I do like to dip my feet in some web design. Nothing too fancy, just a nice, light, attractive enough looking layout to make things easy on the eyes. I have taken a liking to several built-in themes out there, such as Twitter Bootstrap.
Math
Back in school, geometry and calculus were my favorite maths. I still like to read up on them once in a while to keep my math chops from getting rusty. I'd like to get back into it a lot one day and maybe even teach in the field.
Other interests
In my day to day activities, you'll find me working hard on my day job, and going on a climb afterwards or on the weekends. I just started climbing, and I find it incredibly fun. I am not very good yet, but I feel so motivated that I can improve quickly. I got a membership at the Climbnasium. So far, I can only complete a few V0 climbs. But hopefully it won't be long before I can do any V0 and even more challenging ones.
Once in a while I like to play video games, catch up on Shonen Jump, and feebly practice on my guitar.
I also enjoy traveling. I travel some for my current job, but I also like to travel to Perl conferences and workshops to both learn and teach. You can find me going to YAPC, Pittsburgh Perl Workshop, and the Orlando Perl Workshop. I plan on going to some Ruby workshops and hopefully give some talks.
I enjoy blogging. You can see my blog here.
